They never seem to see the irony. I thought the supreme example was the article in which they ripped the Amish for their shunning practices. I mean, can you get much more ironic than that?

JW's and the Cross
by Honesty inwhy is it so offensive to a jw when a person mentions the cross?
-
Big Dog
I might be wrong, but I think the Watchtowers rejection of the traditional cross comes more from Rutherford(?) trying to make his religion "differant" and finding ways to distance themselves from the more mainstream churches. One only has to look at many of the stances taken on things like Holidays, voting, blood, ect. to see that these are used as things that make the Witnesses "differant" and thus correct.
They get offended mainly because they feel they are correct in their view, and the one speaking of the particular doctrine in question is ignorant of the facts, or simply just ignorant of spiritual things in general.Bingo, give the man a cigar.

I think it would b interesting to take a poll. It seems reading this and other threads like it, those of us born into the borg despise the loss of our childhood the most, its just such a common theme among us, I'd say that wins hands down. But for those that came in as adults it doesn't seem that there is quite as clear cut common theme with them, except for maybe shunning.

Jehovah baby: you were my better-half, but just an invitation to the blues.
by tetrapod.sapien inlosing jehovah was like losing a girlfriend that you loved.
you barely had time to flinch when you found out that she had been sleeping with all your friends and stealing your records to pawn off.
that you had just been another sucker on the vine.. when jehovah dumps you, you start looking at yourself longer and harder, and wondering what it was about him that you found in yourself, until all you see there in the reflection is just yourself, dancing with an imaginary hand and waistline.. when jehovah was gone, and the war was over, i realized that all the things that had made me "good", and "moral", and "hate what was bad", didn't mean anything to me anymore.

Good stuff Tetragod, I'll do an extra goat on the hibachi tonight in your honor.
Made me think of the classic: When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you.

mechanics thing, that can't work, and what i see as the lack of true love in the brotherhood.
i've been in "the truth" or lack thereof, for about 30 years, give or take a little.

I hope those pieces of crap in Brooklyn are squirming. Every bit of negative publicity is good publicity.

What did you change in your "look" to show your rebellion?
by JH in.
i grew a goatee and thats my sign to them, that i'm rebellious... .

I really started to rebel in my freshman year in highschool at 118 pounds dripping wet. That's when I started playing football and hitting the weights, by the time I was a senior I weighed 215 pounds with a 20" neck and arms to match, at that point the brothers at the hall realized I was getting more exercise than just going door to door.

by seven006 ini never thought i would do one of those infamous goodbye i cant take this board anymore posts where the person shows up again a week later and looks like an idiot.
when i had enough of this board and needed a little break i would just quietly leave for a few months and hopefully nobody noticed.
that is not the case this time.

Dave,
Words fail me. I detest the frailties we humans are subject to, especially the ones as insidious as MS.
Take good care of yourself, my thoughts are with you.
